Nokia's Mobile Phone Sales Surpassed by Samsung, Ending 14-Year Dominance

Sina Technology, Beijing Time, April 27 morning news: The latest data from U.S. market research company Strategy Analytics shows that Samsung surpassed Nokia (Weibo) this first quarter, becoming the world's largest mobile phone manufacturer and ending the Finnish giant's 14-year market dominance.
Strategy Analytics data shows that in the first quarter of this year, Samsung's mobile phone sales reached 93.5 million units, with a global market share of 25.4%; Nokia sold 82.7 million units, with a share of 22.5%; Apple ranked third, with a 9.5% share.
Nokia's financial report for the first quarter of 2012, released last week, shows that Nokia's mobile device shipments in Q1 2012 were 82.7 million units, down 24% year-on-year. Among them, smartphone shipments were 11.9 million units, down 51% year-on-year. Feature phone shipments were 70.8 million units, down 16% year-on-year.
Data released today by Samsung Electronics shows that Samsung Electronics' sales revenue in the first quarter was 45.27 trillion Korean won (about 39.9 billion USD), up 22.4% year-on-year, down 4% quarter-on-quarter; operating profit was 5.85 trillion Korean won (about 5.1 billion USD), up 98.42% year-on-year, up 10% quarter-on-quarter. In the first quarter, Samsung Electronics' communications equipment division saw a large increase in sales of smartphones, with sales revenue reaching 23.22 trillion Korean won, up 70% year-on-year; operating profit was 4.27 trillion Korean won, up 193% year-on-year.
