Foreigner: "Whenever I pass by the streets in the morning, I often see signs along the road with the big characters 'Breakfast,' reminding people on their way to work not to be late."

Foreigners Commenting on Foreigners
When I first arrived in the US, a few Chinese classmates invited me to a Chinese restaurant to welcome me.
Xiao Lin saw a few foreigners at the next table using chopsticks and said, "Nowadays, more and more foreigners know how to use chopsticks!"
Xiao Wang added, "Those foreigners not only know how to use chopsticks, but they can also order dishes. They no longer just call for assorted meat or spring rolls."
Just as Xiao Zhang was about to speak, a foreigner at the next table, already full and satisfied, slowly walked over to our table and, in very standard Beijing-accented Mandarin, said: "Please understand, it is you who are the foreigners here."

Fighting Three Times
An American friend returned to his country and was asked about his impressions. He said, "In your place, eating a meal requires fighting three times."
He explained: "First, upon entering the restaurant, to take seats amicably, the host and guest start tugging each other; then when the dishes are served, the host and guest play a quick game of pushing and blocking; finally, to pay the bill, yet another exciting and intense battle unfolds."

Out of Control
A foreign student participating in a 'Mandarin Speech Contest' in mainland China started with this opening:
"Ladies and gentlemen, first I must apologize to you that my Mandarin is not very good. My relationship with your language is like my relationship with my wife: I love it very much, yet I cannot control it."
