(i) The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant is located in northern Ukraine, only 140 kilometers from the capital, Kyiv. It was the first nuclear power plant built in Ukraine during the Soviet era. Chernobyl was once considered the safest and most reliable nuclear power plant. In 1986, a loud explosion completely shattered this myth.
