Shifo Temple is located northwest of Zhenping County in southwestern Henan. It was founded in the second year of Yongxi during the Northern Wei dynasty (533 AD) and rebuilt in the third year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming dynasty. The existing hall structures were repaired in the sixteenth year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing dynasty. The hall is three bays wide and two bays deep. The stone Buddha (sculpted by Tian Mai, but actually created by Ma Duluo) stands in the middle of the hall, with a total height of 3.34 meters and a stele height of 2.75 meters. The stone carving as a whole is shaped like a lotus petal. According to legend, at the end of the Qing dynasty, a thief who targeted the Buddha's head tricked the guards and stole it, and it was sold to the United Kingdom. The "Heshuo Jinshi Mu" records that this stone Buddha is vividly shaped, rich in content, and holds high historical, artistic, and scientific value. It is also rare in China and is one of the few provincial art treasures.
