On August 27th, news reported by technology website BGR stated that market research company IDC recently released a report indicating that due to a surge in second-quarter sales, Lenovo's ranking in the Chinese smartphone market jumped from seventh place to second, just behind Samsung.
Lenovo surpasses Apple in China to become the second-largest smartphone manufacturer
According to the report, in the second quarter of this year, the shipment of smartphones in China exceeded that of feature phones for the first time, reaching 87 million units. Among them, Samsung held more than half of the market with 44.4 million units, while Lenovo surpassed Apple with an 11% market share, becoming the second-largest smartphone manufacturer in China.
The report stated that Lenovo's significant rise in ranking is due to a large increase in sales of Lenovo smartphones through carrier agents. Leveraging the advantages of PC retail stores and partners, Lenovo will continue to expand into the retail market.
Due to consumers waiting for the next-generation iPhone and intense competition from Samsung, HTC, ZTE, and others, Apple's share in the Chinese smartphone market dropped from 19% in the first quarter to 10%, ranking fourth.
