Chinese Language Class: 'Ode to Changsha' Alone in the chilly autumn, the Xiang River flows northward, at the head of Orange Isle. I see all the mountains dyed red, the forests layered with colors; the river stretches clear and blue, hundreds of boats competing to sail. Eagles soar in the vast sky, fish swim in the shallow bottom, all creatures strive for freedom under the frosty sky. Feeling vast and desolate, I ask the boundless earth, who rules the rise and fall? Bringing along a hundred companions who once traveled here, I recall the turbulent years of the past. Just as we were young classmates, full of vigor; with scholarly spirit, we argued and gestured boldly. Pointing out the rivers and mountains, inspiring writings, dismissing the wealthy nobles as dung. Do you still remember, striking the water in midstream, waves holding back the flying boat?
