Chapter 14: Searching for Equipment
We looked out the window and saw two guards wildly firing their submachine guns at a biochemical ghost. The ghost was riddled with bullets but still moving energetically, making it difficult for the two to get close. Once their ammunition ran out, the consequences would be unimaginable.
"Oh no, look..." Gaara pointed, and we saw a red shadow flash behind the two guards who were firing frantically.
‘Aargh!' The monster behind let out a roar! The two guards were stunned, and just as they turned their heads, a massive claw, shimmering with green light, came down from above! One guard was flung several meters away by the claw, blood gushing everywhere. He struggled a few times but then stopped moving entirely.
The other guard saw his companion instantly eliminated, and found himself trapped between two large ghosts. He froze in place. In a thousandth of a second—truly a thousandth of a second!—the two monsters did not give the guard a moment to breathe, simultaneously leaping and roaring as they clawed at him.
"It's over!" Seeing that he wasn't going to survive, I closed my eyes, unable to watch the bloody scene.
‘Bang!'
Gunfire echoed across the land, and everyone fell silent. "What happened?" I slightly opened my eyes; the two biochemical ghosts were gone. On the ground lay the body of a guard, with a gunshot wound in his temple.
"He committed suicide?!"
Seeing the wound on the corpse's head, even though I hadn't witnessed it with my own eyes, I could guess what happened. At the exact moment the two ghosts leapt, in a thousandth of a second, the guard decisively pulled out his phone and shot himself in the head.
Everyone in the room looked at each other, expressions complex—sighs, sadness, and gritted teeth. I found a wooden box to sit on, my whole body trembling: Oh my! Too real. I hadn't expected that after the 'Super Fantasy' simulation became completely lifelike, those two monsters would be so terrifying! Just one swipe of their claws could kill anyone. I inevitably remembered the nightmare I had once had.
In the dream, the biochemical monsters were just as lifelike as now. Even though it was only a single mother creature, it led to the total annihilation of our team!In the end, even we weren't able to escape the monster's poisonous grasp. What should we do? Are we supposed to just wait here to die? The bloody horror of the army being wiped out in my dream hit my heart. I patted my head. It's just a game! A game! Just a game! I kept warning myself that it was only a game. Watching me shake my head constantly, Xiao Bai asked worriedly, 'Captain Yu, what's wrong with you? Are you okay?' Only then did Lao Wan and Glasses notice something was off and walked over to pat me on the shoulder: 'Are you all right?' Glasses shook his head, raised the M60 heavy machine gun in his hands, and said arrogantly, 'Sophie, you're good at everything, but you're just too timid! Don't forget, they are them, and we are us! The equipment we have is completely on another level compared to those guys. Don't worry, if that monster comes, I've got you covered!' 'I'm not afraid of them, it's just…' I couldn't really explain it. Ever since entering the game, I've had a sense of foreboding, and now seeing these two monsters so fierce, that uneasy feeling is growing stronger. Ai Luo came over and patted my shoulder: 'Glasses is right. We have numbers, and our gear is strong! Even if we can't defeat them, we still have hope of retreating safely. No matter how worried we are now, it's useless. We should focus on figuring out how to deal with those monsters!' 'Gear!' Hei Ju Shen frowned and walked over. Having seen the power of the bio-ghosts with his own eyes, even he was a bit uneasy. 'If you want to deal with those monsters, gear is absolutely the most important!' After saying this, he looked at the machine guns in our hands with a complex expression and said: 'Without good equipment, nothing else matters! You're lucky to have gotten these heavy weapons, while our side still only has M16 automatic rifles. The difference in equipment is huge.' 'Yeah!' Ai Luo nodded and said to me, 'Gear is very important. I think we probably need to go on an adventure.' 'You mean?' Looking at Ai Luo, I suddenly remembered the place where we got our equipment before. 'Do you mean we have to go find the original weapon supply point and get all the good gear there?' 'Yes, I think Captain Hei Ju Shen agrees with that too!'Heishenzhun nodded: "Should we discuss now how to get our equipment back?"
"Captain Hei, do you have any good ideas?"
Heishenzhun said: "Both sides will each send personnel to cooperate in searching for the equipment, and the rest will stay here and wait for our return!" Then he turned his head: "Bullet, you go with me!" He looked over at us: "How can you get the tiger cub without entering the tiger's den? Who from your team will go?"
That phrase 'How can you get the tiger cub without entering the tiger's den?' Although it carries some risk, staying here and waiting to die is not our style either. For the sake of future safety, it is necessary to give it a try. I said at that moment: "I'll go with Lao Wan! The others stay here and wait for us."
"What?!"
Glasses immediately shouted in disagreement: "Sophie, what are you doing? How can we charge into battle without me? The three of us should go together!"
"No, your task is also very important! What if, after we go out, the bio-ghosts attack? We will definitely need you! Just like you said, without you, can just those few people hold the line?" I softly said the last sentence to Glasses. After hearing this, he understood quite a bit and his tone softened, patting my shoulder: "Alright then, you and Lao Wan be careful, if you run into the ghosts, fight while retreating toward us!"
"Mm."
I smiled and nodded, then looked at Ailuo: "Since I won't be here, I'll trouble you to stay in command."
The reason for this arrangement is that I considered many factors. First, I anticipated that Heishenzhun would definitely go with us to find the equipment. Why? Because their group originally had fewer people than ours, and their equipment is not good. He is worried we will hoard the equipment, so he will certainly go out with us.
Secondly, Lao Wan's combat reflexes are quite good. When fighting the defenders, he once saved Glasses under the sniper's command, so I don't need to worry about him at all. Ailuo is very intelligent; if the bio-ghosts attack, he can take over my role and command everyone in counterattacks effectively. Then there is Glasses. Although he looks like a model student when silent, he is definitely a fierce fighter in battle. If bio-ghosts do attack, his heavy firepower will be indispensable! And Xiaobai can assist Ailuo as his helper.Gaara understood my intention with the arrangement: 'I understand. When you go out, it's best to leave marks on the road. If anything happens, we can follow the marks to support you.'
On our side, we were making the final arrangements for the upcoming adventure, and Black Sniper wasn't idle either.
'Elite, Werewolf! After Bullets and I go out, you need to coordinate well with the other side. If the Biochemical Phantom attacks, your equipment alone won't be enough to hold them off. Follow Gaara's instructions as much as possible.' Black Sniper knew that, with more people and better equipment on our side, in order to avoid further casualties, he had to have his two subordinates coordinate with Gaara's actions.
After arranging everything and tidying up our gear, the four of us officially set off!
The Werewolf first pressed his ears against the door and listened carefully. After a while, he turned around and nodded, signaling that it was fine. Then he moved the thick wooden stick holding the door, picked the lock, opened a slight crack in the door, and peeked outside. Finally, he made an 'Ok' gesture to us!
Alright! Let's go! Exchanging a glance with everyone, Lao Wan and I tightened our grips on our weapons and dashed out first. Then Black Sniper and Bullets jumped out as well. Once we were out, the door immediately closed behind us.
The corridor had no windows. Outside, the sparse orange streetlight shone faintly into the corridor. The cold moonlight, unwilling to be lonely, also squeezed in, illuminating the third-floor corridor and adding an eerie feeling, as if red monsters were lurking nearby, staring at us with bell-like eyes!
Thinking of the monsters' terror, the few of us nervously looked around.
Silence! The 13th District now appeared unusually quiet in the hazy moonlight, deathly silent! But we all knew that behind this calm lay hidden slaughter, and a single mistake could wipe out the entire team!
Black Sniper looked at us and said softly: 'You should still remember the supply point for equipment Captain Locke told you about, right?!'
'Of course we remember!' Lao Wan and I nodded. It was also on the third floor, just on the other end of the third floor. Actually, this stretch of path was neither long nor short. As long as we could safely reach the supply point on the opposite side of the third floor, we would definitely be able to get the equipment!
'Alright, follow us!'"Try to walk as quietly as possible!" He waved his hand, signaling them to follow.
Our group occasionally glanced out the window, walking lightly, careful not to make a sound that might attract the bio-monsters.
So slow! This must be the silent step from the game when you hold down the Shift key. Hopefully, we won't encounter a bio-mother on the way! (End of this chapter)
