The Wenzhou Salt Administration responded that the city's salt supply is enough for residents for two months.
Some netizens wrote on Weibo: "In Muyu, Rui'an, for some unknown reason, everyone is lining up to buy salt. It's now very hard to find salt; most stores and supermarkets are sold out." This news sparked heated discussions among netizens, with many expressing the hope that relevant authorities would debunk the rumors. According to reports from netizens, the wave of residents stockpiling salt may have been triggered by rumors that a war would break out over the Diaoyu Islands, prompting people to follow suit and 'hoard salt.' Some even said that residents were also 'hoarding rice.' A netizen named 'xiaonvrenlovemiss' said: 'I heard that rice in Wenzhou is also running low. Many people are buying rice. It's frustrating.'
Reporters learned from the Marketing Department of the Wenzhou Salt Administration that salt-buying incidents did occur in some towns in Rui'an and Wencheng. The specific reason why residents suddenly started buying salt is still unclear. However, the Salt Administration stated that Wenzhou currently has enough salt stock to last residents for two months, and prices remain unchanged.
