I usually fight small monsters and wild monsters, always running to places where there are no people. After getting past the bottleneck, I go back to fight.
Farming minions, or setting the pace, though that doesn't seem to suit your role. Or play it safe and go for sneak attacks, but stay aware; hopefully the OP won't get stolen by a knife. Mm! And the sneakiest of all — stealing kills...
