Having elderly people at home is a blessing

Taking advantage of the free time during the holiday, I hurried back home to visit my elderly mother.

Returning to the hometown where I grew up, I truly felt a sense of warmth and familiarity! The home is still the place where I lived as a child, only the houses have changed, and the living facilities are more convenient. This is the place where the elderly have spent decades through wind and rain, a place full of hope and joy; it has become a place that the elderly find difficult to part with.

The feeling of being home is really wonderful! I originally planned to help my mother with more things after coming home, but she insisted on not letting me do anything and said, 'You've worked hard away from home; just rest well when you come back!' Every time at this moment, my heart feels a strange pang—I want to cry! But tears cannot fall! Seeing more wrinkles appear on my mother's face, I think about how she raised me into adulthood. I left them far away when I was just a teenager, unable to do much for them, and instead brought them more longing and concern. Nowadays, whenever I think of them, all I can do is exchange words of care on the phone and silently pray for their health and happiness in my heart!

During my stay at home, what I enjoy most is chatting with my mother. I like sitting by her side every day, listening to her confessions and ramblings, occasionally saying a few words myself. Strangely, it never feels bothersome; I feel like there is no end to our topics, an indescribable comfort, an unspeakable warmth and sweetness. Before my mother, I will always be her child, and I am even more attached to her. Yet at such times, I feel that time seems to conspire against me—it flies by! Therefore, I often quietly feel sad at the thought of an impending parting.

As the saying goes, 'Only when you raise a child do you understand a mother's hardships!' Now, being a father myself, I truly understand the feeling of being a parent. Parents are the ones who get up in the cold late night to check if you are properly covered, who fill your plate with fish and meat but insist they themselves don't like eating these foods, who see you off to the edge of the road when you travel and keep watching until you disappear from sight. Parents can give everything for their children, always reserving the best and most precious for them. Parental love is unconditional and expects nothing in return. 'The nurturing grace of parents cannot be fully repaid by their children.' At the same time, parents rarely reveal their own worries or sufferings to their children, fearing they might worry them—that is what makes a parent.

Dear friends, cherish every single day you spend with your parents; this is the truest happiness and love you can hold in your hands!
