The latest issue of the film magazine 'Total Film' has revealed several new stills from 'The Wolverine 2', and the release date for the film's first trailer has also been set for March 28 (to be released alongside 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation').
'The Wolverine 2' is directed by James Mangold. According to him, 'The Wolverine 2' is not, as people expected, another prequel that takes place before the 'X-Men' trilogy, but instead takes place after 'X-Men 3', later than any 'X-Men' story.
However, 'The Wolverine 2' cannot be seen as a sequel to 'X-Men 3' either, because it stands on its own, completely separate from the narrative of the previous 'X-Men' films, representing a very unique period in Wolverine's timeline.
In the film, Wolverine is in a state of disillusionment because the people he loves are gone, most of the X-Men have disbanded or disappeared, and he suddenly loses his purpose for living in this world, yet he cannot die.
'The Wolverine 2' will be released on July 26 this year.
