The princess's hairpin
The king had seven daughters, and these seven beautiful princesses were the pride of the king. Their long, shiny black hair was known far and wide. So the king gave each of them one hundred beautiful hairpins. One morning, the eldest princess woke up and, as usual, used a hairpin to comb her hair, but found that one hairpin was missing. So she secretly went to the second princess's room and took one hairpin. The second princess noticed a hairpin was missing, so she went to the third princess's room and took one. The third princess found one was missing and also secretly took a hairpin from the fourth princess; the fourth princess did the same and took a hairpin from the fifth princess; the fifth princess similarly took a hairpin from the sixth princess; the sixth princess had no choice but to take a hairpin from the seventh princess. As a result, the seventh princess had only ninety-nine hairpins left. The next day, a handsome prince from a neighboring country suddenly came to the palace. He said to the king: "Yesterday, the nightingale I raised brought back a hairpin. I think it must belong to one of the princesses, and this is truly a strange coincidence. I wonder which princess lost a hairpin?" The princesses heard this and all thought to themselves: "It's me, it's me." But with all one hundred hairpins clearly intact on their heads, they were very frustrated and could not speak up. Only the seventh princess stepped forward and said, ‘I lost a hairpin.' As soon as she finished speaking, her beautiful long hair, due to one hairpin missing, fell all down, and the prince was stunned. As for the end of the story, naturally, the prince and the princess lived happily ever after. Why do we rush to make up for shortcomings? One hundred hairpins are like a perfectly complete life; missing one hairpin brings imperfection. But precisely because of this imperfection, the future holds infinite opportunities and possibilities—isn't that something to be happy about!
