An earthquake consists of P-waves and S-waves; the P-waves only bring a shaking sensation, and after a dozen seconds, the S-waves erupt, bringing the true earthquake. Even just the P-waves made the room 'shake violently,' so the power of the S-waves is obviously even greater. The protagonist didn't think about escaping; instead, they went to sleep, probably facing being buried alive. (br)
