Today, I'll once again risk damaging my hands to review and provide a guide for this game. Out There (Deep Space Return) is a sci-fi strategy adventure game developed by the French indie game team Mi-Clos Studio, which consists of two people . The story is set in the 22nd century, when Earth's resources have been depleted and it is urgent to find resources on other planets. The player takes on the role of an astronaut who has an accident on the way to 'Europa'. When you wake up from hypersleep in the cryo chamber, you realize you are not in Jupiter's orbit. In fact, you have drifted out of the solar system. You don't know how long you have been floating in space, nor your exact current location, but you do know the general direction of Earth. Your task is to use some planets along the way as stepping stones, gradually getting closer to Earth, and ultimately return to Earth. || After entering the game, players will see a very simple and plain main interface. However, you'll notice that the background of the main interface is dynamic! The galaxy is moving, while the protagonist's heavy expression is a bit of a sore point; how to put it, it lacks immersion! ----- After briefly observing the main interface, players can choose to start the game → select New Game → then it will remind you whether you want to watch the tutorial. Personally, I recommend watching the tutorial first, unless you think your IQ is higher than mine ←_← After the tutorial, the screen below will appear. Does it give you a Spore-like feeling or not! But this kind of fresh and beautiful graphics is really nice ←_← Spaceships with icons are the impressive, top-level players, while other glowing objects are unknown planets (planets you've explored will change color). Small circles indicate the range the spaceship can move. The big circle is the 'radar', which the game seems to call a telescope (what a ridiculous translation ←_←).The three icons in the lower left corner are the main controls of the game, which are: Galaxy Map (just like at the beginning), Planet Map (you can see the planets in the current galaxy), and Spaceship Hangar (you can see existing items and equipment) || Let's randomly enter a galaxy and see what's there. The animation when traveling between galaxies is quite well done. You can click the lower right corner to skip it. After entering another galaxy, a short message will pop up, sometimes it's the protagonist's log, sometimes events occur, and there will be options. Then you'll enter the planet map. The number of planets in each galaxy and the items they carry are random. Also, entering or leaving a planet or galaxy consumes certain resources. So you need to plan ahead for every step! (Here it kind of feels like a classic Java casual game, the Ape Era?) If resources are insufficient, collect the needed materials. Of course, it's better to collect more, and if you're lucky, you may encounter a space station or an abandoned spaceship. These are all essential for emergencies. ----- After entering a space station, a crystal-shaped object will appear. Simply click on the crystal to receive supplies (any of them can be fully replenished!). ----- (Damn, this doesn't really look like a spaceship, but the cabin is really big…) After finding a spaceship, you can choose to replace it or take its items. Note that there are many spaceships in the game, with different capacities and equipment. When replacing a spaceship, you have to manually move the existing materials. Equipment cannot be moved, but you can remove it, move the materials, and then reinstall the equipment in the new spaceship. Also, after replacing the spaceship, all fuel, oxygen, and hull will be fully restored. All collected materials can be chosen according to your own needs. Personally, I think survival materials should be prioritized, and other materials depend on the capacity of the ship's cabin (if the cabin is large, you can collect twenty of each type for making devices or trading with aliens). If you're lucky, you'll learn new technologies while collecting materials! First, players need to find an 'oxygen planet,' and if there are enough materials, consider entering it. Then, players might encounter aliens, and at that point, decisively click on them. Then, it will talk to the player in a bunch of gibberish, just ignore it and keep clicking. Then comes the crucial part… The player can only like it, of course, if you choose to dislike, there's nothing I can do ←_← Then, the shameless alien will ask you for items… Whether to give them or not is up to you. Personally, I recommend giving the last or second-to-last item. Make sure it's rare. Reminder: do not give 'survival materials,' not just to stay alive but also because they don't like them much. After giving items, there's a 70% chance it will give you new technology and a 100% chance to learn new words ←_← ----- Sometimes, during a slow journey, players will encounter black holes. A mysterious place, no one knows when it appears, and no one dares to explore it ←_← However, if you're lucky, you might find something at the entrance of the black hole, I personally encountered a super battleship ←_← If you have enough materials, consider going inside, but of course, I only suggest entering the entrance, not the interior. Any course deviations after that are not my responsibility ←_← This is my ending entering the 'Green Star,' not a perfect ending T_T did not return to Earth. A trickster alien said a bunch of nonsense that I didn't even listen to. Then…… What a trick, huh? My dream is to travel the universe!! And the top four words are just for show?! What happened to the promised endless journey! Alright, I got carried away. Now, let me explain the method to achieve the perfect ending in the game, though I haven't tried it myself… First, the player should head straight to the 'Red Star,' ignoring any events or planets triggered along the way. Then, you might learn some technology at the 'Red Star'? (Not really sure about this part…) Next, fly to the 'Green Star,' and use a certain technology to destroy its main planet (I remember there's a tech called 'Death Seed'?). Finally, once its main planet is gone and turned into a black hole, the player can bravely fly into that unexplored place! Triumphantly return to Earth! (Along the way, you might unlock the 'Blue Star' too; the official word is it's the enemy base, but you can't enter? Not sure what they were thinking… The 'Red,' 'Green,' and 'Blue' stars all have 'arrow navigation'). || ----- Overall: Graphics: ★★★★☆ (depends on personal preference) Difficulty: ★★★★★ (unless your IQ is higher than mine) Gameplay: ★★★★☆ I must say, this game is quite decent for its current state! And it was made by just two people! You can even learn a lot of chemistry knowledge ←_← truly imaginative! But I have one complaint: the main character doesn't need to eat at all!
