To be honest, when I saw the online version of "The Lost Story" on TapTap, my first reaction was that I was stunned. This game was an old thing from the Symbian era at the time. I remember playing the stand-alone version on an N95 at that time. It was a pixel-style block world where I could build houses, fight monsters, and raise dragons. I played it for most of the night. Ten years have passed, and I can still wait for the online version to be launched. I'm not bragging about it. This feeling alone is worth a download.
Let's talk about the most intuitive feeling first. The online version adopts a room system, and up to six people can play together. This is much better than having to work alone. I shared a room with some old friends last night, and as soon as I entered, I found that there were a lot more character customization options - 36 combinations, and you can choose from hairstyles, hair colors, and clothes. Although it is not a 3A-level face-shaping system, it is already full of sincerity in this pixel sandbox. Moreover, each character's data is saved independently. You can use your own character to play in other people's worlds, and your things will still be there when you come back. This is really user-friendly, and you don't have to open a new file and start from scratch like before.
The gameplay basically inherits the core of the stand-alone version, including mining, killing monsters, training dragons, and building bases. Veteran players will have no pressure to get started. The newly added pet skin-changing function is a bit interesting. My native dog can finally change to a silver-scale skin, which looks a lot fresher visually. The biggest fun after going online is actually the division of labor and cooperation. Some people specialize in mining, some build houses, and some train dragons. The efficiency is more than twice as fast as that of a single machine. Moreover, six people fight the boss together, and the scene is quite lively. The pixel villains are jumping around on the screen, and it feels like a family carnival of the red and white games back in the day.
Of course, let's talk about some shortcomings. The current network stability of the online version is average. Yesterday, I was disconnected once for two hours while playing. I lost ten minutes of progress when I rolled back. I hope it can be optimized in the future. The other is the amount of content. After all, it is ported from a single player. The map and monster types have not been expanded too much for the time being. Old players may find it a little repetitive in the middle of the game. However, the developer Mindblocks said that it will update new maps and new bosses in the future. As an old player, I choose to believe them again.
Not to brag, but if you played the stand-alone version back then, this online version is definitely worth coming back to check out. If you are a new player, it is good to find a few friends to join the game. There are not many games these days where you can calm down and build a block castle. To be honest, ten years later, I can still play the online version of childhood memories. This emotion alone is worth the time. 😌
