To be honest, when I saw the game "Dream Westward Journey 4" for the first time, I had some mixed feelings. As an old player who has worked hard since the Saipan era, I have witnessed too many junk mobile games that make money under the banner of "feelings", so at first I didn't have high expectations for the latest game in this series. But since the original team is still there, I decided to give this old guy a chance, and I ended up playing it for three months.
I'm not bragging, but what gratifies me most about this game is that it hasn't lost the "hardcore side-scrolling" soul of the Dream series. Although the graphics have evolved from the pixelated style of the year to exquisite 2D, the combat feel and combo system retain the refreshing feeling familiar to old players. In particular, the newly added second mind system allows each profession to switch fighting styles. For example, Sun Wukong can be a berserker and fight to the end, or he can be a skill-based kiting BOSS. This depth really allows veteran players to play with a fresh feeling.
As for the shortcomings, the numerical expansion in the later period is a bit obvious. Starting from about Chapter 4, if you don't spend money, you will have to work hard. Brushing dungeons, doing daily routines, and saving materials every day is a bit too much for a middle-aged person like me who occasionally wants to relax. However, as a free game, it does not have any disgusting operation of "getting stuck without recharging money". Many civilian players can also reach the rankings by relying on the operation, which is worthy of praise.
What impresses me most is the system for developing fairy pets and magic weapons. When I was playing "Dream Westward Journey 1", I was so excited that I couldn't sleep because I could bring a Garuda. Now when I look at the S-class cute pets that fill the screen, although the quality is high, I still miss the simple joy of "catching a wild pet for half a day". But then I thought about it, times are changing, and games are also improving. As a veteran player, I am very satisfied to see that the Dream Series insists on doing side-scrolling combat in this fast food era.
Finally, as a digression, I heard that 4399 has been able to support its development team through Dream IP in the past two years, and is still preparing for offline activities this year. I hope these old programmers can remember their original intentions and don't imitate those big companies' "648 and ten consecutive" tricks. After all, we, ten-year-old players, are still waiting to see them make better works😏
