To be honest, as a veteran player who came from the Saipan era, my expectations for domestic mobile games have dropped to the center of the earth over the years. Especially the card game, it will either force you to go to great lengths, or it will make you doubt your life. So when a friend recommended "Fellow Taoist Please Stay", I originally wanted to say a few words and then write it off.
But the result? Well, it smells really good.
Let me talk about the most surprising point first: daily tasks can be completed with one click. Not to brag, I've been looking forward to this feature for at least ten years. I used to play a certain so-called "easy card", and it would take me half an hour to clear tasks every day, and I had to set an alarm to put away the food. Now, just click and it will be done in three seconds. The rest of the time can be spent either pushing pictures, studying the lineup, or going offline directly. For office workers, this is salvation. I even think this should become standard for all mobile games, but obviously, most manufacturers are reluctant to let you go offline so quickly.
Then there is the 0 krypton experience. I really need to talk about this. The weekly dragon-fighting activity in the game yields 100,000 ingots. The official said, "You can buy whatever you want." I thought it was a gimmick at first, but after actual testing, the ingots are indeed enough. There is no need to draw cards, you can buy them directly with gold ingots, the price is clearly marked, and there is no hidden pitfall of drawing a card pool. For me, who has been dominated by the destiny of being a "non-chief" since childhood, this feeling is too solid. Whatever deity you want, just save enough money to get it directly without having to gamble on the feng shui of your ancestral graves. 😅
In terms of collection, there are characters from Journey to the West, Fengshen, and Classic of Mountains and Seas, and the designs have quite an oriental charm. It's not the flashy two-dimensional painting style, but the Chinese-style ink texture, which is comfortable to look at. Moreover, there are bond bonuses between characters, and different lineups can be matched with strategic depth, which is not a mindless pile of combat power. I currently mainly play a mix of Fengshen + Journey to the West, which I feel is okay and has a good fault tolerance rate.
Of course, it's not without its flaws. The game UI may occasionally freeze, especially when there are many people, which may be a server load issue. In addition, the plot text is a bit perfunctory in some places. After all, the focus of the card game is not the plot, but as a nostalgic old player, I still hope to see more cultural copywriting. After all, these characters are all based on classic Eastern myths, so writing them well can really add points.
Finally, let's talk about industry mentality. To be honest, the mobile game market is now at a fever pitch, and everyone is competing to see who has more gift pack pop-ups and who has a deep card draw guarantee. Those who dare to shout "0 krypton is really delicious" and "one-click daily" like "Fellow Taoist Please Stay" are either stubborn or really want to change their way of life. Judging from the current experience, it is indeed trying to go in the direction of "saving money and time". Although it is still far from perfect, it at least allows me, an old man who has been cheated countless times by various "gang krypton" games, to see some sincerity.
If you are also an old person who has survived the Saipan era, or a light player who has been heartbroken by domestic cards, you might as well give this a try. There is no guarantee that you can play for three years, but at least in the first two weeks you will think "Hey, this is actually not bad." 😌
