To be honest, when I saw the game "Fairy Tales", my first reaction was a little emotional. As a veteran player from the Symbian era, the changes in mobile games over the years are really like a roller coaster. From using Java emulator to play the stand-alone version of "Legend of Sword and Fairy" to the current Xianxia mobile game with high-definition quality and real-time PK, the technological progress is really amazing.
However, no bragging, although this game claims to "break through the traditional gameplay", but take a closer look at its core selling points - real-time strong PK battles, cross-server fairy alliance competition, domineering light weapons, cool fashions, couples' dungeons... To be honest, I have seen these elements in similar games five or six years ago. Many young players may find it novel, but for us old guys, this "one-stop" system design is already a bit tired.
Of course, it's not without its highlights. The "weather system" and "unique NPC interactive tasks" it mentioned made my eyes shine. In the past, many Xianxia mobile games only focused on numerical values and combat power, ignoring world immersion. If "Fairy Tales" can really integrate weather changes into combat or exploration, for example, the damage of fire spells is reduced when it rains, and flying mounts are affected in thunderstorms, then it will be considered a breakthrough. In addition, the charging mode is written as "0", which most likely refers to free download, in-app purchase and card drawing, or VIP monthly card, right? 90% of Xianxia MMOs on the market now follow this approach, which is a bit boring to be honest.
When it comes to mobile game development trends, I think we are at a watershed now. A large number of homogeneous Xianxia and legendary games are competing for users, but players are getting smarter and no longer pay for the "999 for one dollar" advertisement. On the contrary, those works that focus on gameplay innovation, social depth and plot immersion are more able to retain people. For example, the open world like "Genshin Impact" or the emotional connection like "Light Encounter". Old players like me would like to see games like "Xianmengqiyuan" break away from the old routine of "combat power crushing" and truly create the "fate" and "miraculousness" of cultivating immortals, instead of just relying on the numerical values of weapons and clothing.
Finally, to be honest: if you are a player who likes excitement and pursues instant pleasure, this type of game can indeed bring you a sense of pleasure for a period of time. But if you want to get back the feeling of "the road is long and the journey is long" when you played "Sword of Immortal", you may have to wait a little longer. To be fair, domestic mobile games are technically taking off, but there is still a long way to go in terms of soul innovation. 😌
