To be honest, as a veteran player who has worked hard since the Saipan era, the mobile game market has really changed a lot in the past few years. In the past, we could have fun playing Snake for half a day, but now we are constantly playing in the open world and drawing cards to earn money. Sometimes we feel really tired. But I recently tried this placement RPG, which surprised me a bit.
Let's talk about the game itself first. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but the picture does have something to it. 3D modeling can be done on mobile phones, and the sense of light and shadow in skill special effects has far exceeded the level of many PC games five or six years ago. As for the plot, although it's a bit cliché - a human being rescues the village chief in the world of spiritual beasts, it's more relaxed and the character develops the rhythm of "slowly becoming stronger" which is very comfortable. For office workers like us, it's quite relaxing to spend some spare time idle and refresh, and then lie in bed at night to watch skill animations.
But what I want to talk about more is the trend behind it. Have you noticed? Today's mobile games are becoming more and more popular, but there are some signs of "return". It used to be said that idle games were pure idle games with no interaction, but "Kung Fu Night" incorporates card strategy. Combat requires matching lineups and considering skill linkage. Isn't this what we did when we played "Dota Legend"? But with the addition of 3D and automatic combat, the operating threshold has been lowered, making it more attractive to light players.
To be honest, I think this is the future direction: Technically, we strive for image quality and smoothness, and gameplay is towards "lightweight + strategic depth". Not everyone has time to play a half-hour copy, but everyone is willing to pay for "smart" automatic combat. For example, the spirit beast companions in this game each have independent action designs and exclusive skills. The sense of accomplishment of "combination skills" after developing them is much more interesting than simply trying to score values.
Of course, the shortcomings must also be mentioned. At present, the progress of the main line is in the middle and late stages, and it is obvious that resources are stuck. If you don't recharge, you will have to wait for a long time. Fortunately, the free model is quite conscientious, there are no forced advertisements, and the items given during daily tasks are enough. I checked the developer Kaixuan Network. They used to mainly make casual games. This is their first 3D medium-to-heavy game. I can see their sincerity, but the optimization occasionally drops frames (I use iPhone 12). I hope it can be fixed in subsequent updates.
One final word of emotion: From the Symbian era to now, watching mobile phones change from 256 colors to retina screens, and from stand-alone to online social networking, the essence has not changed - games still have to make people happy. "Kung Fu Night" is not a masterpiece, but it allowed me to regain the sense of solidity of "slowly developing a character". If you are a player who likes placement but does not reject strategy, you can try it. As for krypton or not, it depends on your own pace. Just don't let the anxiety of “getting stronger” lead you astray.
Okay, no more typing, I'm going to save the village chief grandpa. Let's talk about other old games and new trends next time when we have time. See you on the forum🤙
