To be honest, as an old player who has been playing since the Symbian era, when I saw the words "genuinely authorized", my first reaction was actually a little wary. There have been too many mobile games under the banner of "paying homage to classics" in recent years, especially the works adapted from some big IPs. The assembly-line style of drawing cards, crushing values, and changing leather cases makes it boring after playing for a long time. But the game "Saint Seiya: Rebirth" really surprised me.
Let's talk about the advantages first. The biggest highlight of this game, I think, is the careful restoration of the original work. Instead of simply throwing characters into the card pool for you to draw, it takes you step by step through the classic plots of Saint Seiya - from the Galactic War to the Zodiac to the Poseidon Chapter. Although this level-style narrative method is not new, it is better than emotion. The operation is also smooth, and there are no pop-up ads that forcefully interrupt the experience. I'm not going to brag about it, but as a long-time fan, my eyes felt a little hot when Mr. Mu, the Aries player, appeared on the stage.
But it's not without its flaws. Compared with other similar IP mobile games on the market, such as "One Punch Man: The Strongest Man" or "Naruto: Ninja Next Generation", "Saint Seiya: Rebirth" is actually slightly conservative in terms of combat system. The skill combos are not refreshing enough, and the strike feeling is relatively flat, lacking the pleasure of punching to the flesh. Moreover, in terms of character development, although it is very conscientious and does not force krypton (you can play quite comfortably at 0 yuan), there are few ways to obtain upgrade materials, and it is easy to get stuck in the later stage. Compared with the fast-paced development of "Time Hunter", this seems a bit blunt.
I would also like to make some industry observations. In the past two years, Japanese comic IP mobile games have been launched together, and there are too many people who rely on "childhood memories" to cut leeks. But "Saint Seiya: Rebirth" at least did not disappoint old players too much, because it knows what the core users want - the middle-class feeling of "for the goddess and peace", the shock of Shaka waking up with her eyes closed, and Seiya's stubbornness that never gives up. In this regard, it is more sincere than many similar works.
Of course, if you are a competitive player who purely pursues hard-core operations, you may still want to check out "Honkai Impact 3" or "Zhan Duo". But if you just want to calm down and relive a passionate past in a fragmented time, then this game is worth a try. At least for me, it still retains the pure "you will be happy all day long after completing the level" experience of the Saipan era. 😌
Finally, I would like to add the emotion of an old player: Being able to play a childhood IP game that is not perfunctory is already a small blessing in this era. I hope that when we are 30 or 40 years old, we can still be moved by that passion. 👊
