To be honest, it has been almost fifteen years since I started playing mobile games when I was in college. Coming all the way from Java mini-games in the Symbian era, we have witnessed the evolution of mobile games from pixel blocks to 3D realism. This time I saw someone mention "One Piece - Set Sail" in the forum. As a One Piece fan for more than ten years and a card game enthusiast, I couldn't help but want to write some thoughts.
Let's talk about positioning first. There are actually many mobile games authorized by ONE PIECE on the market. "Hot Blood Route" takes the action fighting route, "Burning Will" is a turn-based RPG, and "One Piece-Sail" has always adhered to the direction of Q version strategy cards. Not to brag, this style is indeed a bit old-school, but it is precisely because of the old-school that it appears to be particularly sincere among similar products - it is not trying to use IP to make traffic fast, but is really running a complete card development system.
Let's talk about the advantages. The first is the "main city transformation" of the new expansion pack. To be honest, the main cities of many games now are just a pile of function buttons, but in this version of Qihang, the main city can interact and breathe, and the companion portraits have also been updated to be dynamic. I specifically went to watch Kaido's transformation animation. The switching between human form and dragon form is really oppressive. The special effects are better than expected. They are not cheap textures. The GVG gameplay of the Battle of Four Emperors is also very bold. A large-scale cross-server battle with hundreds of people on the same screen is very lively in the naval battle scene. Although it is a Q version, it is not weak in tactics. You need to match the lineup, consider the positioning and skill coordination.
Let's talk about comparisons between similar games. Compare "Burning Will". That game is more turn-based, has a realistic style of painting, and has a high degree of plot restoration, but the battle rhythm is slow and the development line is deep. "Hot Blood Route" focuses on PVP and action operations, which is very refreshing, but it is not very friendly to micro-Krypton players. "One Piece - Set Sail" follows the old strategy card route. The threshold is relatively low, and the pit of card drawing is not too deep. At least the new character Kaido is the core output, and you can get it by slowly collecting fragments with zero krypton. However, the shortcomings are also obvious: the Q-print style discourages some players who like the realistic style; the repetitive copy grinding of card games is still a pain point; there is also the disconnection problem between the old area and the new area. Although there is integration in 3.0 this time, the old players who got into the game early should be able to feel it.
The charging mode is 0 (free), which is true. It is not completely impossible that there is no recharge entrance, but it is more likely that the game will rely on advertisements or in-app purchases of items to make money. But at least the online experience is clean and there is no need to be forced to spend money by pop-up windows. For players who want to see their feelings, it is quite pleasant to spend half an hour every day collecting vegetables and playing activities.
One final sigh. Today's mobile card games are either about changing skins to draw cards, or stacking up values for krypton. There are not many old games like "One Piece-Sail" that insist on restoring IP and are willing to introduce new gameplay. If you are also an old Haimi who started following comic series and occasionally want to find a mobile game that can be idle, has strategies, and has new characters from time to time, this one is worth trying. But if you are pursuing extreme action or realistic painting style, you may still have to look at other options.
I don't want to brag about it, but I sincerely recommend it to players who like slow-paced strategy cards. 😌
