To be honest, when I first saw the name "Candy Crush Saga", I thought it was a common match-3 or development game. After all, there are a lot of reskinned games on the market. But after clicking in and playing for about two days, I found that this thing is really interesting.
As an old player who has worked hard since the Symbian era, I am no stranger to merger games. There was a similar concept on Nokia N-Gage back then, but the graphics and interactions were far less refined than they are now. "Candy Crush Saga" allows me to get back a little bit of that "exploring and surprising" feeling.
Not to brag, but the merging mechanism of this game is quite solid. By dragging three identical items together, you can synthesize something more advanced, unlocking new areas and new partners. The whole process is very smooth, there is no annoying waiting time, and resource recycling is also reasonable. The key is that the effect feedback after synthesis is done well. Each merge has small animations and sound effects, which feels a bit decompressing.
The picture style is that of bright candy colors, and the elf design is cartoonish, but the details are very attentive. The candy wonderland in the background has a fairy tale feel, which is suitable for casual play when you are in a bad mood. To be honest, this style of painting is relatively "quiet" among current mainstream mobile games. There are no full-screen pop-ups and red dot reminders, which is quite friendly to experienced players.
I have no impression of the developer Shenzhen Yunbu Interactive Entertainment. After checking, it seems that it is a small team that makes casual games. The charge is 0 yuan, which must be praised. Nowadays, mobile games often come with first-load gift packs or monthly passes. I haven't found any in-app purchases for this game so far. I just rely on watching ads to unlock acceleration or get props. This mode is actually quite old-school, but for a player like me who doesn't spend money, it feels pure.
Of course, there are also flaws. The progress of the main plot is a bit slow towards the end, and the repetitive labor of synthesizing items becomes more intense. If some random events or rare synthesis recipes can be added, it may be more motivational. In addition, the archiving mechanism seems to be unstable. Once I changed my mobile phone to log in, I lost half of my progress. I hope it can be optimized in the future.
Overall, if you're like me and like relaxing games where you don't rush and just explore by yourself, this game is worth a try. It's not a “must-play” game, but it's enough for daily commuting or relaxing before bed. 😌
