To be honest, when I saw this "Stickman Clash of Clans", I was a little disdainful at first. After all, from the Saipan era to now, I have seen between 100 and 80 stickman games, and most of them are for exchanging leather rings for money. But after downloading it with the mentality of giving it a try, I played it for three hours at a stretch. The more I played, the more interesting it became.
I'm not going to brag about it, but what impresses me most about this game is its “no pretense” vibe. The picture is indeed crude, with a stick figure hand-drawn style and no decent light and shadow, but it is precisely this retro feel that reminds me of the time when I played "Doodle Jump" on Nokia. And the strategy of the game is much deeper than I thought - it is not a mindless troop-building game. You need to consider the combination of troops, formation layout, and even calculate resource allocation. For example, in the early stage, I only knew how to build infantry, but I was called out by a group of archers on the opposite side. Later, I learned the basic routine of using shield soldiers to absorb injuries and the archers to deal damage in the back row.
The training system is also very solid. Each stickman class has its own skill tree. Some can be upgraded into berserkers with fire effects, and some can be changed into healers. Watching a team of stick figures that I personally trained go from just running around to charging in neat lines, I would be lying if I said I didn't feel a sense of accomplishment. Especially when unlocking new stickman types, the immersive feeling similar to collecting models is really rare in games where you can draw 648 cards at every turn.
What's even more rare is that this game is actually free? It costs 0 yuan to download, and I've played it for so long without encountering forced pop-ups or stamina systems. I have never heard of the developer Hainan Xingkongjian Technology before, but at least for now, they are serious about creating content rather than rushing to monetize it. This can be said to be a breath of fresh air in the current mobile game environment.
Of course, there are also shortcomings. The difficulty span of the levels in the later stages of the game is quite large. Sometimes you will be stuck on a certain boss for a long time and cannot find a clear strategy guide. In addition, the social functions are basically zero, which is similar to the stand-alone version. If you can add a friend to help in the battle or an alliance system, the playability should be improved to a higher level.
In general, if you are tired of those flashy Krypton-heavy masterpieces and want to find a game where you can really calm down and ponder strategy, then "Stickman Tribe War" is worth a try. It's not perfect, but sincere enough. At least in the eyes of me, an old player, it is enough to bring back the original intention of playing stand-alone games in bed ten years ago. 😊
