To be honest, there aren't many mobile games that keep me staying up late playing recently. From the Saipan era, I struggled with the Java version of "Prince of Persia" until now. At the age of 30, I thought that mobile games would be like that. However, the game "Dragon Castle" allowed me to regain the joy of "suffering" in the past😌.
Not to brag, this 3D hard-core work that won the Blackstone Award for Best Action Game in 2019 does have two tricks. As soon as you play it, you can feel that the production team really understands action games, instead of just using a "hardcore" label to fool people. The attack rhythm, dodge frames, physical strength management...these details are all polished well, especially the boss battles. The difficulty curve is very traditional. There are many overturns at first sight, but after getting familiar with the moves, you calm down and deal with it. Every block and dodge can be exchanged for positive feedback. The joy of "finally passing" is exactly the same as when I played "Zelda" on the GBA.
Speaking of the free model, I was quite surprised. 0 yuan download, no in-app purchases to force you to earn money, purely relying on the quality of the game. This is a breath of fresh air in today's mobile game market. Of course, hardcore action games themselves screen out some casual players, but those who can stay can basically feel the production team's obsession with "fighting against the odds". When I saw it nominated for Best Independent Game at TGS, and later qualified for porting to Nintendo Switch, I knew these people were not joking.
However, new players should also be warned: this game is not very friendly to the remnant party. There is no automatic battle, no one-click combos, and all operations have to be done by hand. But think about it from another angle, this is the original fun of action games, isn't it? Just like when we played "Thunder Fighter" on Nokia, we failed hundreds of times before passing the level once. That kind of sense of accomplishment cannot be given by modern fast food mobile games.
Finally, to be honest, if you are tired of paying for cards, automatic pathfinding, and daily dragons, and want to find a game that can make you sit up straight and play seriously, then "Dragon Castle" is worth a try. After all, there are not many things that can make a 30-year-old player regain his youthful spirit.
