As a viewer who has been involved in KPL and LPL all year round, I have always been sensitive to version updates. Even if it is a synthetic placement game that seems to be more casual, balance adjustments will also directly affect players' strategic choices. I recently got into Attack of the Dragons. I originally thought it was just for fun, but I found that the game between the synthesis path and the attributes of the dragons is quite in-depth, a bit like a smaller version of the lineup matching thinking.
After this update, I clearly feel that several branches of the originally unpopular magic dragon have begun to have a chance to appear. For example, everyone used to mindlessly pile up the Star Fire Dragon because of its high burst and fast monster clearing. However, the new version has adjusted the debuff mechanism of some water dragons, allowing more room for field control and continuous output. This is equivalent to a certain version of LOL that strengthens the roaming ability of the soft assistant. On the surface, it is just a slight numerical adjustment, but in fact the entire battle rhythm has been changed. Last night I tried to form a lineup around the Frost and Shadow types that reduced attack speed and added continuous damage. The map pushing efficiency was actually nearly 20% higher than that of the pure Fire type, which shows that the version changes are indeed encouraging players to try more combinations.
Another point worth discussing is the optimization direction of the synthesis mechanism. This update slightly increases the synthesis experience value of low-star dragons, but reduces the randomness of high-star synthesis. This is actually a typical "lowering the entry threshold and raising the upper limit" design, which is very similar to the logic of adjusting the early economic allocation in Honor of Kings - making it easier for novices to transition to the middle and late stages, but veteran players with refined operations can still widen the gap through reasonable allocation of resources. For me, this change makes the competition more competitive, because it is no longer just about who can hang up longer, but who can plan the optimal evolutionary route with limited resources.
Of course, there are concerns. At present, the restraint relationship between the dragons is not obvious enough. Some attributes are almost ignored after being piled up, which is similar to some versions of the brainless shooter system. If more targeted mechanisms can be added in subsequent updates, such as the penetration or immunity effects of specific dragon species on specific armor types, then the game level of the formation will be more like a small tactical simulation battle. After all, after watching the game for a long time, I like the fun of "predicting the opponent".
Generally speaking, although Attack of the Dragon is a synthetic placement game on the surface, the impact of version updates on the competitive environment is not small at all. If the development team can continue to pay attention to balance and maintain a diverse appearance rate of dragons, then this small game may become a good strategy training ground. I even think that if the player versus player mode is opened in the future, the collision between different genres will be very interesting, just like how different teams in KPL always have different understandings of version answers. We look forward to subsequent updates bringing more version changes 😎
