Hello everyone, I am a reviewer. Recently, I saw someone mentioning "The Founding Heroes of the Ming Dynasty" in the original novel section of the forum. I just spent three days writing an objective review for the reference of interested players.
First, the conclusion: the overall score is 8.2/10. It is a very rare historical strategy game that is completely free and has no in-app purchases. It is suitable for players who like the history and hard-core strategy of the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties, but be cautious about the graphics.
Screen: 7/10
The game adopts a realistic ink style. The main interface and battlefield map have an ancient charm, and the cities and units have a certain sense of historical research. However, due to the old engine (Platform 5.0), the character renderings are slightly rough and the special effects are relatively simple. However, considering that it is the work of an individual or a small team, this level of completion is considered conscientious, and is much better than a bunch of reskinned web games.
Gameplay: 8.5/10
The core is turn-based strategy + character development. Start with the small boss of the Red Scarf Army, recruit famous historical generals such as Zhu Yuanzhang, Xu Da, and Chang Yuchun, and experience classic battles such as the Battle of Poyang Lake and the Northern Expedition to Dadu. Mechanisms such as troop restraint, terrain influence, and food and grass supply are all in place, and the offensive and defensive battles of large corps in the later stage are very brain-consuming. The difficulty curve is steep, so novices need to be patient, but once you get started it's easy to get addicted.
Krypton Gold: 10/10
The charging mode is marked as 0. In actual testing, there is no mall, monthly card, or card drawing system. All generals, equipment, and resources are obtained through missions and battles. The only "payment" is to watch advertisements to gain extra physical strength (but it can be skipped, and the impact is not significant). In today's world of 648 for any game, this is simply a clear stream among the clear streams.
Social: 6/10
There is no real-time PVP or guild battle, only friends to assist in the battle and ranking list (see who can post pictures faster). Social interaction is weak, more like a single-player game. However, there is a communication group created by players in the forum. Those who like to discuss history can find friends there.
Summary of advantages and disadvantages:
Advantages: completely free with no in-app purchases (this must be praised), solid historical research, sufficient strategic depth, and challenging campaign design.
Disadvantages: Old graphics, slightly weak novice guidance, single social functions, and some level values in the later stages are a bit unbalanced.
In general, if you are fed up with mobile games that cost money and want to experience a strategy game that is serious about history and has solid gameplay, then "The Founding Heroes of the Ming Dynasty" is definitely worth a try. Especially players who are interested in the late Yuan Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty will definitely find fun. I hope that the production team can optimize the feel and add more plot branches in the future, and I will continue to support it. 😎
(Personal rating: Picture 7/10, gameplay 8.5/10, money 10/10, social interaction 6/10, total score 8.2/10)
