I recently played Escape Room Survival Series 1 Polar Adventure. To be honest, this game made me rethink the scoring criteria for puzzle games. As an evaluator, I am used to scoring from several core dimensions, but this type of pure stand-alone puzzle game is somewhat special, and it may not be fair to apply the conventional online game scoring system, so I would like to use this post to share my understanding with fellow Time Hunter players.
Let's talk about the game itself first. This is a collection of dozens of puzzles without repeated content. Each story is an independent chapter, and the puzzle design is indeed very exquisite. I am currently playing the fifth chapter, and I can feel that the planners have worked hard on the logic of the puzzles and the connection of clues, without the feeling of forcing the numbers together. The graphics are in a dark fantasy style, and the details of the characters and scenes are more exquisitely drawn. Although it is not at the level of a 3A masterpiece, it is at an above-average level among mobile games. The sound effects and dubbing are also in place, creating a very immersive horror atmosphere.
Back to the scoring criteria, I generally divide them into four dimensions:
Picture 8/10, the overall art style is unified, the scene switching is smooth, and each world has unique visual elements, such as the cold tones of the polar ice caves and the warm tones of the magic forest. The only deduction point is the occasional lag in UI interaction.
Gameplay 9/10, the puzzle difficulty level is reasonable, from simple observation to requiring memory, reasoning and combination of props, covering almost all types of puzzle games. The lack of duplicate content was a real surprise. However, some puzzle clues are not directly connected and require repeated attempts, which may discourage light players.
Krypton gold 10/10, completely free, no in-app purchases, no advertising rewards, not even physical limits. This is extremely conscientious for stand-alone puzzle solving. You can play through dozens of chapters in one go without being interrupted by a paywall.
Social 0/10, This game has no online features, no leaderboards, and no community interaction. This is determined by the type, and may not be very friendly to social parties, but from another perspective, focusing on solving puzzles can be regarded as a pure experience.
The overall score is 8.5/10. It is an excellent niche puzzle collection, suitable for players who like to use their brains and don't mind exploring alone. Recommended to those who are time hunters who want a change of taste. If you are tired of fighting monsters, it is good to come here to calm down your mind. Of course, if you are more interested in reorganizing your team to play black, or need immediate feedback, it may feel boring.
Finally, a few words about the scoring criteria themselves. I have always felt that ratings should not be cold numbers, but should give players a reference for decision-making. For example, Polar Adventure has zero social functions, but its hardcore puzzle solving and free mechanics can completely make up for it. So when you are rating the game, you might as well think about what you value more, whether it is immersion in the plot, brain-burning experience, or fast and refreshing feeling? Only by finding the right ruler can you choose the work that truly suits you. 😊
