To be honest, after reading the introduction of "Ace War", my first reaction was a little emotional. I'm not bragging, I've been playing it since the Saipan era, and I really feel like I've witnessed the evolution of mobile games. From Snake and Tetris in the early years, to RPGs on the Java platform, and then to various hot hits after the rise of smartphones, it is no exaggeration to say that the changes in mobile games in the past ten years have been earth-shaking.
The "short-term survival method" of "Ace War" is actually quite interesting. In the past, most post-apocalyptic survival games pursued long-term operations, such as building a base and hoarding resources. One game could last for several hours. But nowadays, mobile game users' time is more fragmented, and this “one game per half an hour” design is more in line with the current rhythm. Coupled with the multi-dimensional confrontation on land, sea and air, it can be seen that the developers have put a lot of effort into balancing strategy and excitement - there is no absolute firepower dominance, only an ever-changing battle situation. This setting is good at competitiveness.
Judging from industry trends, I think this direction is smart. After 2023, heavy-duty mobile games will begin to differentiate. Some are pursuing immersion and social systems in a more extreme way, while others, like "Ace War", compress the length of a single game and strengthen the rhythm of confrontation. I have also paid attention to the developments of the developer Tianjin Hero Interactive Entertainment in the past two years. They seem to have been polishing this "high-density experience" gameplay, which is no longer the same as the thinking of "Brawl Westward Journey" back then.
Of course, as an old player, I still want to mention: the graphics and operation feel are the lifeblood of doomsday survival games. It is difficult to make a conclusion just by looking at the introduction. But at least conceptually, it follows several current trends: fragmentation, strong confrontation, and multi-dimensional combat. I may play it next time and write a detailed review later. If it can retain the apocalyptic atmosphere without making players feel uncomfortable, it will be a rare and good work😊.
