To be honest, I have been in the mobile game industry for more than ten years, from playing "Thunderbolt" and "Prince of Persia" in the Saipan era to the current chicken games and Genshin Impact. I think I am still a bit picky about the quality of games. Two days ago, someone recommended "Battlefield War Simulator" on the forum. When I saw that it was made by Hainan Star Jump, I thought to myself - how much hope can a war game produced by a small domestic manufacturer have? After I downloaded it and played it, I actually played until three in the morning. It's not a shame, this game does have something good.
Let's talk about what surprised me the most: the physics engine. You may think this is a cliché, but I have tried too many so-called "real ballistics" mobile games. In fact, the bullets are replaced by parabolic formulas, and the explosion map is blasted. But this game is different. The impact point of aircraft bombs will change according to the speed and angle. The elevation angle of tank barrel affects the impact point. Even the bullets fired after the infantry lies down will be deflected due to the fluctuation of the ground. I drove a Sherman to engage in mountain warfare in hilly areas. I watched the shells flying past the turret of the opponent's tank and blasting a crater behind me. That moment really reminded me of the feeling of being online with friends in "Battlefield 2".
The vehicle system is also very good. It's not the simple logic of "hit someone with your car - the health bar drops - the car explodes". When flying an airplane, if the dive angle is too great, the wing will not be able to withstand it and will break off; a tank will spin in place if it is hit by a track, and can only turn in a small radius on the other side of the track; if an infantryman is too close to blow up a tank, not only will it be blown away by the explosion wave, but it is also necessary to calculate the time of the fuse, otherwise it will become a self-detonator. This kind of detail is so rare in mobile games, and it can be seen that the development team really understands what Battlefield players want.
Let's talk about the map and battlefield atmosphere. I have played more than a dozen games so far, with three scenarios: snow, desert, and city ruins. The scale is not large, but each map has clear tactical points. For example, in the picture of the snow, there is a radar station in the middle that controls the field of view of the entire area. Whoever occupies it can suppress the opponent's spawn point. I tried using smoke grenades to cover the infantry charge, and then used tank side artillery to support it. Finally, I had two fighter jets cooperate with each other with air bursts, forcing the opponent back for two rounds. The collaborative combat experience of "infantry carrying the line - tanks breaking the point - aircraft recovering the disabled" can really make people's adrenaline soar.
What touches me the most is that this game is completely free, without even a recharge entrance. To be honest, I have long been disgusted by the "648 bonus for internal testing and 648 for public testing" routines on the market. Hainan Star Jump dares to make a war simulation game with zero payment points in 2024. This attitude alone deserves praise. Of course, it is not without shortcomings: the picture quality is slightly rough, and the textures are definitely not as good as those of PC masterpieces; the balance of the troops needs to be adjusted, and the current helicopters are a bit too powerful; and the AI teammates occasionally get stuck on the terrain, but considering that it is an amateur team in version 5.0, it is completely understandable.
One final word of emotion: From the pixel tank battles of the Symbian era to now being able to play war simulations with such physical details on mobile phones, game technology has progressed so fast. If you are also an old Battlefield player, or are tired of those mobile games that change skins and draw cards, I really recommend giving this one a try. Even if it's just to hear those long-lost engine roars, it's worth it. 🎮✨
