I still remember the days more than ten years ago when I would hide under the covers with my old GBA and play "Trunik Adventures" all night long. At that time, dungeon games were not called Roguelike, we called them "random mazes". Every time I enter the cave, I feel nervous. Picking up a rusty sword can make me happy for a long time. Now that I saw the name "Wonderland Town", I originally thought it was a mobile game that can be redeemed for money, but after playing it for a few hours, my youth came back! 😭
Let's get back to the serious comparison. Classic dungeon games, like "The Wind Comes to Xilin" on the PSP, the gameplay is purely about grinding levels, picking up props, fighting monsters, and starting over if you die. The painting style is pixel style, the music is 8bit, and the rhythm is very slow but it seems very interesting now. The biggest difference of "Wonderland Town" is that it integrates Roguelike with simulation management and auto-chess. At first I thought this seam monster must look very different, but I didn't expect it to be quite different.
First of all, in terms of gameplay, the classic dungeon is a single-player hero, but in "Wonderland Town" you have to recruit adventurers of different professions, which is a bit like the team formation of GBA "Advanced Warfare". Automatically move positions and automatically release skills during battle. Although it lacks the feel of manual operation, fortunately, the strategic depth is still there. When I used to play "Final Fantasy: Chocobo Labyrinth" on the NDS, I also had to match professions, but here I can actually find the nostalgic "thrill of team matching". 👍
Secondly, business elements were rare in handheld consoles back then. I remember that there were very few games on the GBA that combined "Harvest Story" with dungeons, but "Wonderland Town" actually made a closed loop of town construction, adventurer development and monster killing. After the battle, I went back to the town to build buildings and farm. I really felt like "after fighting monsters and going home to farm" - this feeling was experienced last time when I was a hunter in the PSP "Pocket Edition 2G", but that time I was barbecuing and making equipment, here I am growing vegetables and building houses 😂
Let's talk about the style of painting. The pixel style of classic dungeons looks like art now, but new players may be discouraged. "Wonderland Town" is more of a two-dimensional fantasy, with exquisite characters and gorgeous special effects. Although it lacks the "old game flavor", it is indeed more in line with modern aesthetics. Opening the Android emulator runs smoothly, and key mapping is less troublesome than the PSP emulator. Sure enough, the platform has changed and the experience has changed.
Finally, the paid model is free and praised! Back then, I was very nervous when playing pirated cassettes, but now I am satisfied that I can play such a carefully crafted game through an official website. However, old bones, please note that drawing characters in mobile games may remind you of the urge to buy Goldfinger. It is recommended to play as a Buddhist.
It is recommended that all nostalgic fans give it a try, especially those who have been tortured by "Mysterious Labyrinth" to the point of crashing their phones. This time you can grow vegetables in a small town to nourish your liver and restore blood, and you will no longer be afraid of death. 😄
(Original GBA dungeon: If you die, all equipment will be lost; Wonderland Town: If you die, the adventurer will return to the town to rest and continue - this alone should make you cry!)
