To be honest, as an old player who came from the Symbian era, it has been a long time since I wrote a long review for a mobile game. In recent years, the mobile game market has been dominated by various "masterpieces" that draw cards, earn money, and auto-battle. Opening the rankings is all about skin-changing routines. There are fewer and fewer games that can really make people calm down and enjoy the level design. Until today, I happened to find "Song of Gravity" in a small corner. I actually played it for two hours at a stretch. I even felt like I was returning to the pure joy I had when I played "Dungeon Hunter" with Nokia more than ten years ago.
I'm not going to brag about it, but what impresses me most about this game is its “cleanness”. There are no forced advertisements, no in-app purchase pop-ups, and even zero payment mode. This is as precious as an antique in the mobile game market of 2024. The name of the developer, Taoteng Interactive Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., sounds like a small team, but what they created does have the ingenuity of an old-school studio - putting all their energy into the core gameplay and level design.
The core mechanics of the game are simple: by touching the screen, you can move the ball in any direction. Each room is a closed puzzle space, and the goal is to find and escape through the portal. Sounds like a collection of physics mini-games? But actually playing it is completely different. Elements such as lasers, magnets, and moving platforms are gradually added to the levels. At first, you can just rely on intuition to get through them, but later on, you must carefully plan every step of the trajectory. The feeling of figuring out the optimal path bit by bit reminds me of the sense of accomplishment I felt when I played "Bridge Engineer" through repeated debugging.
The design of both game modes is very classic. The limited movement mode is more strategic. You have to calculate inertia, ejection angle, and magnetic attraction, which is a bit like playing a physics experiment; the limited time mode directly becomes parkour, with adrenaline soaring, and those with weak hands may drop their phones. My personal suggestion is: Beginners should start with the limited movement mode first, and then challenge the limited time mode after they are familiar with the feel, otherwise they will be easily persuaded to give up. In addition, the game's environmental music is done very well, matching the pace of the levels, which is fast and slow, and even has a sense of immersion like "Monument Valley". The sound effect feedback every time you pass the level is also in place, so you won't feel like you're playing in vain.
Of course, as an old player, I can also detect some regrets. For example, the total number of levels is not too many, and players with a fast pace may be able to complete it in two or three nights; the touch accuracy may occasionally cause frame skipping during extreme operations, but considering that this is an old game on the 5.0 platform (maybe the original version was for iOS?), the compatibility is pretty good. In addition, the game does not have cloud saves, so you have to start over when changing devices, which is not very friendly to players who want to collect them.
But looking back, it is these "imperfections" that gave it the warmth of a small game back then. Today's games often cost tens of gigabytes and have beautiful graphics like movies, but after playing, they are often left with nothing but emptiness. And "Song of Gravity" used dozens of megabytes of space to give me concentration and happiness for an entire afternoon. You don't need to charge money or perform daily tasks, you just need to stare at the ball on the screen and find the only correct path.
Finally, give me a personal rating: 8.5/10. It is suitable for all nostalgic old players, and is also recommended for new players who are tired of expensive mobile games and want to find some "real gaming fun". If developers can see this post, I want to say: Please continue to make this kind of pure game, I will buy it even if it only costs 6 yuan. Because to be honest, there are really not many games that can rekindle the passion of a 30-year-old player like me. 🎮✨
