I usually watch KPL and LPL and am used to studying version changes. I didn't expect that a stand-alone puzzle game could also make me talk about this topic. Recently, "Unlocked Room" has been quietly updated. I went in to experience it for the first time and found that the mechanism logic of several levels has been slightly adjusted. For example, the gear combination puzzle in Chapter 3 originally required rotating three large and small gears in order, but now it has been changed to require triggering a hidden gear before activating the main gear. This change directly disrupted my previous speedrunning muscle memory. 😅
This is just like the rework of hero skills in MOBA games. On the surface, it is just a small change in values or trigger conditions. In fact, the entire puzzle route and rhythm need to be rebuilt. In the past, I used to check all the interactive mechanical parts first and then deduce them logically. Now the version hides a key clue in the replay clip, causing many old players like me to waste a lot of time on the wrong mechanical parts. This adjustment of "information bits" is actually very similar to changes in the visual field mechanism in e-sports - whoever adapts to the new information acquisition method first will be able to clear the level faster and get a better puzzle-solving rating. 🧐
In addition, the new version also reduces the glow duration of fluorescent handprints from 10 seconds to 5 seconds. Officially, it is to allow players to focus more on observation, but I think this is a disguised weakening for old players who are familiar with the map. Originally, you could slowly compare the order of imprints, but now you have to memorize and copy the actions in a short time, and the error tolerance rate is greatly reduced. This reminds me of the changes to the eye stone mechanism in LOL, which force players to improve instantaneous decision-making and operational accuracy. New players may think it is fairer, but for the core puzzle-solving party, this wave of version balance does require re-optimizing their "puzzle-solving BP". 📝
Even the resistance parameters of several knobs in the "Gravity Utilization" level have been adjusted. In the past, they could be turned around with great force to achieve miracles, but now they must be triggered with the rotation of the perspective. It is very similar to the revision of the hero skill indicator in Honor of Kings - on the surface it is a change in feel, but in fact it forces the player to improve the accuracy of the operation. It took me three tries to get used to it, and I almost suspected that I was handicapped. 😇
Generally speaking, this version update brings "Unlocked Room" closer to the trinity of "operation + memory + reasoning" from "pure logic puzzle solving", making it more competitive. For players who pursue speed passes and full achievements, they really need to do "version homework" like e-sports players. I hope the next update can balance the clue density and operation difficulty so as not to make it too uncomfortable for veteran players. 😤
