As an old player from the arcade era, when I saw the news that "Three Kingdoms: Uprising" was released, my first reaction was "Ye Qing is back". But feelings are feelings. Now that the mobile game market is so huge, can it really still be popular? I tested it for a few days and briefly talked about its current situation and potential from several dimensions.
Screen: 7/10
The game basically reproduces the core art style of the arcade version. The pixels of the characters and scenes are well preserved, but the UI and special effects have been made high-definition. To be honest, there is definitely a gap compared with the "light pollution" of current mainstream mobile games, but it is better than being clean and not flashy. The BOSS appearance animation and combo special effects made me feel the same as when I played "Xiahou Dun". The disadvantage is that the image quality of the new server is a bit compressed, but the old model is smoother.
Gameplay: 8/10
The core is still a side-scrolling level, with hidden generals unlocked, heavenly props, and combo systems all restored. The most surprising thing is the addition of real-time battles. Although the matching is occasionally stuck, it is still very cool to be able to fight a set of "Zhuge Liang Infinite Chain" with real players. The dungeon mode has single-player challenges and team formation. The difficulty curve is reasonable and there will be no suffocating feeling of "getting stuck if you don't spend money". The only drawback is that the operation keys are a bit small and the phone screen is easy to accidentally touch.
Krypton Gold: 6/10
It's advertised as "free" but actually has in-app purchases. There are tricks such as giving away hidden generals with the first deposit and resource gift packs with monthly passes, but compared to many domestic mobile games, it is considered restrained. You can get through the main line without using krypton gold, but the cycle of brushing materials will be longer. In the PVP mode, players who spend money do have advantages (such as unlocking special props), but civilians with good skills can also make a comeback through operation. Generally speaking, the micro-Krypton party can play, but the monthly card party has a better experience.
Social: 5/10
There is no compulsory teaming up, so you spend most of the time as a lone wolf painting the map. The guild system is very crude, basically just hanging up to give each other physical strength. Although there is real-time battle, the voice and emoticon functions are missing, and the game just falls apart after the battle. Want to find teammates who "were tossing coins together to pass the level"? Disaster. The social nature is weak, suitable for players who want to play quietly.
Why might it not become popular?
To be honest, classic IP + emotional orientation can indeed attract a wave of old players, but such replica games often lack stamina. There are several reasons: first, the operation threshold is high, and novices cannot pass the level by pressing random buttons, and the learning curve is steep; second, the content is updated slowly, and the boss and characters at the end of the level are still the same, lacking freshness; third, there are too many competing products of the same type next door, such as the mobile game "Three Kingdoms 2", which has long diverted many users. Moreover, the "0 charge" model will make people worry about the quality of subsequent updates.
But does it have any chance of becoming popular?
have. If the official can actively make balance adjustments, introduce more new modes and welfare activities, and add in the viral spread of the "nostalgic combo" on the short video platform, it is still possible to be both popular and popular. After all, players are now tired of "IQ tax" mobile games, and this kind of hard-core arcade sequel that can rely on technology has become a scarce product.
Summary Rating: 7.5/10
Recommended for three types of people: middle-aged players who want to reminisce about their childhood, side-scrolling enthusiasts who like hard-core operations, and casual party-goers who are too lazy to care about daily life. If you come here for money or extreme social interaction, it may not be suitable. On the whole, it is a sincere online remake, but whether it can be popular depends on the sincerity of subsequent operations. At least now, it's worth clicking to download and shoot "Zhao Yun's Heavy Rain Pear Blossom Gun" again. 🎮
