As an old player who has been paying attention to Fantasy Tower PVP since the server was launched, this update of version 5.8 "Tired Wings Return" has indeed brought many changes worth talking about. When the new mimic "Berry" was first launched, I was worried that it would destroy the arena ecosystem like some previous characters. However, after a week of actual testing, I felt that the planning was still careful in terms of balance.
Let's first talk about the competitive positioning of the character “Berry”. Her skill mechanism is biased toward mid- to short-range roaming bursts. Her second skill comes with slowdown and marking, and her ultimate skill has a range knock-up effect. At first glance, she looks like a squishy assassin, but in actual combat, her survivability actually relies on precise dodge and energy management, rather than having an invincible frame or high damage reduction like the previous "Lin Ye". This means that the operation requirements are higher, and low-level players may appear weak, but high-level players can indeed exert good suppression if they can cycle their skills well. The current arena winning rate statistics show that "Berry"'s appearance rate is second only to the veteran T0 character "Mark", but the winning rate is stable at around 52%, with no signs of exceeding the standard, which is considered a healthy figure.
The version update has simultaneously adjusted the values of several weapons. For example, the critical hit damage coefficient of the "Ring of the Sea" has been reduced by 5%, while the attack speed bonus of the "Thunder Blade" has been increased from 20% to 25%. This wave of changes is obviously aimed at the previous mainstream "Thunder Team" problem of excessive bursts, giving more space for slow weapons that rely on the number of stacks of A to level. Now you can see more diverse combinations in the environment, such as the field control flow of "Ice Staff + Blazing Bow" and the continuous output flow of "Black Crow Scythe + Moon Wheel", which are more popular than the previous version. However, the freezing effect of ice-type weapons is still too easy to predict and dodge in high-end games, so the ice team is still not mainstream. If the plan can add a slowdown superposition mechanism to the ice system in the future, it may make the field control game more competitive.
What makes me most gratified is that this time there is no situation similar to "the ban rate of 90% of the whole server when Mark first came online". The competitive environment of Fantasy Tower has always had an old problem: linked characters or limited mimics are often stronger than resident characters, resulting in a high threshold for new players to enter PVP. However, the strength of "Berry" is basically the same as that of "Tesla" in the same period, without a crushing advantage, and the limited weapon of this issue "Bow of Ember" also gives a clear countermeasure (long-range kite versus Berry's rush), giving the game more room for gaming. This kind of balanced design with "counter chain" is much better than simply weakening it across the board.
Of course there are shortcomings. For example, the map of the "Struggle for Strongholds" in the battlefield mode is still too small. The displacement skills of the new character "Berry" make it easier to achieve efficient group control in narrow terrain. As a result, players in the three rows unanimously choose the fast-break lineup of "Berry + Mark + Nami", which has too insufficient control chain. I hope the next version can optimize the map depth or add some terrain obstacles to the defenders. In addition, the SSR option given to newcomers still does not include the latest permanent weapons. For newcomers who want to enter the arena, it will take a long time to catch up with the version rhythm after getting the "Red Lotus Blade" or "Ice Bow", which is still a bit discouraging.
Overall, version 5.8 is the most balanced update of Fantasy Tower in recent seasons. There is no numerical explosion for new characters, and there is room for adjustment for old characters, and the diversity of the environment has been significantly improved. As an e-sports observer, I think this wave of operations deserves praise - after all, the most feared thing in mobile PVP is "generation of versions, generation of gods", and I hope that this kind of cautious numerical control can be maintained in the future.
