Hello brothers, I am an old player who has been playing on red and white consoles till now. I opened the app store today and saw this "Old God King". Oh my god, version 4.0. It can kill several gigabytes in size. Twenty years ago, a NES cassette only cost 64K, and you could play it for a whole summer without getting tired of it. It's better now. If I install a game on my phone, my mother will think I'm saving a movie. 😂
The graphics of this game are really awesome, with movie-level picture quality and 360-degree free flight, just like the CG in "Final Fantasy 7" back then. But to be honest, I played for hours, upgraded, changed jobs, captured mythical beasts, and fought with gangs, but I always felt empty in my heart. I remember when I was playing "Dragon Quest", the text was all tadpole text. I played all night long relying on gestures and a guide book. It was called immersion. Now this game has arranged everything for you, including automatic path finding, automatic combat, and automatic task submission. Do I only need to be responsible for clicking "Next"? 🤔
I'm not saying this game is bad, after all, the original author Jing Wuhen recommended it, and the plot must be solid. But the sense of surprise of "Wow, I discovered a new world" is really becoming less and less. Maybe we are getting old, or maybe the game has become too "big", but the purest fun has been lost.
So, young people, cherish this moment when you can still be amazed by a game. I'm an old guy, so I'd better dig through my collection of GBC cassettes to find the happiness I had back then. 😉
What do you think? Are today's mobile games becoming more and more like advanced time clocks?
