Let me start with the conclusion: this update of "Ski Adventure" is definitely not just adding two new skins to fool people. As someone who has been sitting on the sidelines of KPL matches all year round, I actually smelled the game-like feeling of version changes in a parkour game, which is quite amazing.
The core of this change is to readjust the pursuit speed curve of Avalanche. In the past, you just had to speed up without thinking in the middle distance, but now the avalanche will suddenly "go wild" after you hit the acceleration strip continuously, forcing you to plan the route in advance. This is very similar to the change in the jungle rhythm in Honor of Kings - it does not make you farm all the time, but makes you have to make choices at key nodes. Either sacrifice a little speed to use the shield of the animal companion, or take a gamble and take a shortcut in the cave but bear the risk of overturning. Anyway, you can't get it all with one trick.
The triggering mechanism of Penguin Companion has also been changed. In the past, if I saw a penguin, I would pounce on it and I would definitely make a profit. Now there will be a short inertial drift after triggering. Experts can use this drift to cut into narrower rock crevices, but handicap players (such as me) are often taken into snowdrifts. This "revenue and operation linked" design is obviously closer to the competitive direction. Just like the reworked heroes in LOL, the lower limit is low and the upper limit is high. If you practice well, you will get points. If you don't practice well, you will be given away.
Also, the range of the eagle's rescue determination has been narrowed. In the past, if you tripped over a rock, the eagle would come all the way to get you. Now, you have to accurately roll directly under it to trigger it. This change is like weakening a certain version of the T0 auxiliary. On the surface, it just adjusts the value, but in fact it changes the entire running rhythm - now the error tolerance rate after mistakes is much lower, and you must maintain a high concentration in the second half, and your palms will become sweaty after playing three games in a row.
But what surprises me the most is that the acceleration effect of the snow monster will now dynamically decay based on the current speed. When you ride a snow monster at low speed, you are very explosive; but if you are already sprinting at high speed, the snow monster only gives you a weak push. This resulted in the failure of the tactic of "accumulating props and bursting out", and instead placed more emphasis on the stability of the entire route. It's a bit like the changes in mage equipment in previous versions. Instead of giving you a set that can be used instantly, it encourages continuous consumption.
From a competitive perspective, this update is indeed moving in the direction of "emphasis on planning and light on reaction". On the day the new version was launched, the mindless sprinting method I was used to was immediately dropped out of the top 100 on the high score list. Later, I changed it to predicting the distance between obstacles three seconds in advance and coordinating the triggering timing of the animal companions, and then slowly returned to the top 50. This process of being forced to update your playing style is actually the fun of competitive games.
Of course, the nature of the game is still casual, and there is no strict countermeasure mechanism like e-sports. However, the version adjustment allows you to repeatedly ponder "should you slide left or right?" and "should the penguin be used now or left on the ice?" It is already much more interesting than many idle numerical games. If you are the kind of player who likes to study version changes and pursue extreme results, this version is worth picking up and giving it a try. Anyway, I always feel itchy in my hands if I don't wash it twice before going to bed every day. 😌
