To be honest, I rarely post in this section. After all, it is impossible for veteran players of my age to take selfies, and making friends is even more casual. But when I saw this game today, I really couldn't help but want to talk about it, just as a reference for young friends.
I'm not bragging, I'm an old guy who came from the Symbian era. At that time, mobile phones still had nine-square keyboards, and games were still Snake and Java mini-games. Later, when web games became popular, I happened to be in college, and I still feel emotional when I think about the days when I spent nights at Internet cafes playing copies. The IP "Dream Westward Journey" was really popular back then. Three of the four people in the dormitory were playing it, and the remaining one was helping us hang up the game.
This time, I downloaded the mobile version of the game immediately. To be honest, the moment I first entered the game and the familiar opening music of Journey to the West started playing, I got goosebumps. The graphics are a qualitative leap compared to those of the browser games back then, the character modeling is much more refined, and the skill special effects are much more gorgeous, but the original combat feel is actually retained, which is not easy.
The gameplay of the game itself is still the same, with horizontal action to complete levels, and different skill combinations to perform combos. I personally particularly like its skill system. Each character's skill tree is divided into several layers. You can use burst flow or control flow. With different weapons and magic weapons, there are many tricks. I played Sun Wukong, and I followed a strategy of critical strikes and blood-sucking. It was very comfortable to brush the map, and the feeling of killing with residual blood was more exciting than in the Internet cafe back then.
The equipment system is also quite in-depth. It has everything you need to strengthen, refine, and inlay gems. But to be honest, this depth may be a bit stressful for novices. It is recommended that friends who have just entered the game should not rush to buy equipment first, push the main line, and then consider developing it after figuring out the routine.
The plot is still the familiar Journey to the West story, but with some new things added in. Some levels are quite interestingly designed. For example, the BOSS mechanisms in the Flame Mountain level have changed a lot. It's really easy to overturn the first time you play without reading the guide. This kind of setting that requires using your brain to study the BOSS is honestly much better than many current mobile games with one-click hang-up.
What surprises me the most is that this game is completely free. Everyone in the current game market knows that monthly passes, battle passes, and first-time deposit gift packages are all arranged like supermarket promotions. However, this game currently seems to be quite conscientious and can be played by a party with zero krypton, but it requires more time and effort. For student parties and zero krypton players, this deserves a thumbs up👍
But there are also things I want to complain about. On the one hand, the stamina system is a bit slow. When you are playing with high interest, you suddenly find that you have no stamina. It feels like being disconnected in the middle of playing in an Internet cafe. On the other hand, the social function is not perfect enough. In team matching, you will occasionally encounter teammates who are offline. I hope that subsequent versions can optimize it.
Let's talk about the industry level. In recent years, there have been more and more IP-adapted games, but to be honest, most of them are just trying to cut leeks, and there are only a few that are really serious about making them. This time 4399 is trying to adapt the domestic IP. It did not modify it blindly, but retained the most attractive parts of the web game era, and then rationally optimized and adapted it to the mobile terminal. This attitude can be felt by veteran players.
Finally, let me say something heartfelt. I am thirty years old this year and have been playing games for longer than my own children. Sometimes when I open this game and listen to the music of Journey to the West, I will vaguely think of the brothers in the dormitory who studied a BOSS all night and cheered after defeating it. It may be difficult for children today to experience that kind of happiness, because there are too many good games and too many choices.
But "Dream Westward Journey OL" allowed me to find the simplest happiness. If you also want to relive the passionate Journey to the West, or want to experience what an adaptation of a classic IP should look like, this game is indeed worth a try.
Okay, that's it for an old player's thoughts. I wish all young friends a good time, and hope to see more sharing about good games in this section. Don't just post selfies😄
