Hello everyone, I am a game reviewer. Recently, I saw a lot of people talking about "Peak Duel Stickman" in the Time and Space Hunter section. This fighting mobile game with a minimalist style is not very popular, but the player stickiness is surprisingly high. Today, from my evaluation perspective, I will talk about why it is so popular among a bunch of gorgeous 3D fighting games and whether it will become less popular in the future.
Let me first give an overall score: 7.8/10, which is a positioning of "worth a try, but don't expect it to be a masterpiece".
Picture dimensions: 6.5/10. To be honest, the stickman style is inherently disadvantaged. There are no exquisite vertical paintings, no particle effects, and even the characters are just a few lines. But its advantage is that the fluidity of movement and strike feedback are quite solid, the skeletal animation is very smooth, and the skill special effects are simple but highly recognizable. This "return to nature" style allows players to focus on the operation, which can be regarded as a trade-off.
Gameplay dimension: 8.5/10, this is its core vitality. Although the operation only has one direction key and a sliding wheel to trigger exclusive skills, the actual depth of the battle is far beyond expectations. The magma terrain in the map is not a decoration. You have to use knock-off, push, and even weapon skills to drive your opponent into the lava, instead of just fighting for the health bar. This "terrain killing" mechanism makes the battle full of psychological games. You must not only prevent being counter-killed, but also look for opportunities to edge over. Switching between three modes (should it be brawl, one-on-one, and team?), the freshness can last for a long time. Especially for the weapon system, the exclusive skill CD and release time of each weapon are completely different, and the gap between masters and novices is greatly widened - which just explains why it is "popular": hardcore operators will spontaneously benefit from it because the sense of accomplishment is too strong.
Kryptonian Dimension: 9/10. Free game, completely zero gold points, no physical limit, no card drawing, no skin attribute bonus. This is a breath of fresh air in mobile games. How do developers currently make money? It seems that I can only generate electricity by watching advertisements or purely for love. But this also brings a hidden danger - the subsequent operation power is insufficient, and the update frequency may become slower. But for now, Zero Krypton players can enjoy a complete combat experience, which must be commended.
Social dimension: 6/10. The game has PK and rankings, but it lacks a strong social system. There is no guild, no room for friends to compete, and even chatting is inconvenient. Players mainly communicate with each other through forums and performance charts. This means that it is difficult for it to form a snowballing social fission. The scope of the fire is limited, but the core player circle is very pure. Everyone only talks about playing style and not about human relations, which is in line with the tone of fighting games.
Now to answer the question in the title: Why is it popular? I think it's because it achieves the ultimate in "operational purity." Most fighting mobile games on the market either auto-fight, accumulate values, or spend money to buy skins to increase combat power. "Peak Duel Stickman" returns to the essence of fighting - anticipation, positioning, and timing. Whenever you send your opponent down with a roundhouse kick on the edge of lava, the feeling of pleasure cannot be exchanged for any amount of money. At the same time, its lightweight style allows low-end mobile phones to run at full frame, and it can be played smoothly on 5.0 platforms, so the audience base is naturally large.
Will it be cold? There are currently two hidden dangers. First, the content is consumed too quickly. Although there are many maps and weapons, veteran players may get bored after playing the core mechanism for a long time. Second, the official update frequency is unclear. After all, it is difficult to continue investing in projects that do not make money. If there are no new maps, new weapons, or new modes for a long time, the popularity will naturally subside. But fortunately, it has a good foundation. As long as the operator is willing to release some seasonal activities or major version updates, the game can live for a long time.
Finally, I would like to give some advice to new players: Don't be dissuaded by the simple screen, calm down and practice for ten games, and you will discover a whole new world of fighting. If you like the ultimate control feeling of "Shadow Blade", or miss the pure battle of "Death vs. Naruto", this game is worth putting on your mobile phone.
