First, let me vent about the current mobile game scene 😤: Many game promo images are stunning at first glance, the illustrations are drawn by what seem like god-level artists, and the voice actors are like wife material, but when you actually play, the gameplay is just 'auto-battle + probability checks.' Honestly, it's better to just treat the gacha interface as a digital art book (facepalm). As a 2D otaku, I'm not that obsessed with the battle system, but at least give me some sense of involvement, will you!?
But precisely because of this, I ended up falling into an old game trap: 'Fan-made Loyal Yue Fei Story' 😭. As for the art style… it definitely can't compare to modern anime, and it even has a bit of the old 'Cao Cao' game vibe, but the script is solid! The whole story honestly follows the main plot of 'Complete Biography of Yue Fei,' and watching Grandpa Yue go from challenging Little Prince Liang with a spear to the Wind and Waves Pavilion made me, someone with fragile tear ducts, completely break down. Memories from lurking in the film and TV section came flooding back; watching the TV version as a kid had the same feel.
But what hit me the most were those fantasy side stories!! You can actually strike straight at the Yellow Dragon and hold a victory banquet at the Yellow Dragon Mansion; you can even have a battle with Genghis Khan... Isn't this purely an 'if route'? When I was playing, my mind automatically added a voice-over: if only history could really be changed.
