Just got out of a battle royale game, and my fingers are still shaking. It's not from the excitement of winning, but because the controls were so frustrating they triggered my inner edgy gamer. Here's the conclusion first: I actually still want to recommend this game to people like me who care about the art style, especially otakus who like a pixel art style with a bit of anime flavor. Free, made by Shanghai Ten Mu Information Technology Co., Ltd., can run on any platform that supports version 5.0, what more could you want?
But I have to vent. I originally went for the cover and weapon icons—AK47, M4, sniper rifles, assault rifles, pixel guns, submachine guns, shotguns... just seeing the names, my brain automatically imagined gun girls, okay! But when I started the game, landing on Death Island, unarmed, I had to pick up guns everywhere. In my ideal scenario, even if I got killed on landing, I would look cool; in reality, I got killed on landing, and the box was pixelated. Where are my character illustrations? My voice lines? Even a single 'Commander, please survive' would have been fine! Nothing—just bullets whizzing past my ears, as if mocking my anime imagination. 😭
The gameplay is just the standard Battle Royale formula: parachute, loot, shrink the circle, eliminate opponents, and become the last survivor. Sounds fine, but the feel is really subtle. Shooting feels like giving the enemy a massage; the hit feedback is so light. I clearly aimed, but the bullets seem to have a mind of their own. And that pixel gun—I thought it was a joke weapon at first, but it really is a pixel gun. Shooting it fills the screen with a mosaic of chaos; the enemies don't die, and I'm the one who ends up dizzy. 🤡
But that being said, if you're like me and don't care much about a bad combat system as long as the character art looks good, this game can still be fun. The island's scenes have a sort of post-apocalyptic and pixelated vibe, the weapon icons are quite recognizable, and occasionally taking screenshots for memes is pretty fun. It's a free game, so you can just go in like a tourist or a casual gamer. Just don't expect the voice cast or story to be impressive like I did—this game doesn't intend to cure your chuunibyou; it just wants you to repeatedly die on the island of death.
So recommendation rating: 3.5 stars for art style fans, 1 star for gameplay fans, and 0 stars for voice actor enthusiasts. If you want to experience "Winner winner, chicken dinner," you can use this to satisfy that craving, but it's recommended to set your expectations to the level of a pixel mini-game. After all, I intend to become a chicken dinner king, and I can't be defeated by the controls! Next time I parachute in, I'll definitely look for a sniper first, then hide in a bush until the final circle. ✨
