At first, I didn't even know what a strategy game was and thought it was the kind where you just click and it fights automatically. But when I got in, I found out you have to move on the grid yourself, select generals and arrange formations, and also consider whether to attack aggressively or use strategy, my brain almost couldn't keep up 🤔
It is mainly divided into two parts: storyline and battlefield. The storyline is set in the late Eastern Han Dynasty, when various warlords rose up—Cao Cao in the north and Sun Quan in the south. We play as Liu Bei during this era of contending heroes. On the battlefield, you can collect treasures and train generals. For someone like me who only knows a little about the history of the Three Kingdoms, I can learn about some well-known historical events while playing, which can be considered as catching up on lessons.
Let me talk about the pitfalls I fell into. The first pitfall was randomly upgrading generals. I gave resources to whoever I liked, but later I found that some levels require specific troop types and formations, and the characters I trained just couldn't handle it. I was stuck on levels to the point of wanting to cry 😭 So newbies, don't follow my example. It's best to first see what others recommend, or save more resources.
The second pitfall is not understanding positioning. I thought that strategy games were just about charging in to fight, but I ended up being tormented by the enemy's ranged units and cavalry. Later, I realized that terrain, unit counters, and the order of actions are all very important. If a direct attack doesn't work, then use strategy—this saying is really not written for nothing.
The third pitfall is treasures and story events. At first, I was only focused on fighting and missed some opportunities to get treasures. Later, when I saw discussions by others, I realized I had missed them. Also, I sometimes rapidly skipped through the story dialogues, and only later did I realize that there was a lot of Three Kingdoms history in them. Skipping too fast was a bit of a loss.
However, this game is single-player, and the payment model shows 0, which is quite friendly for newcomers like me who don't want to spend money.
