Recently, I've been staying up all night playing a game called Island Survival: Temple Relics. To be honest, at first, I thought from the name that it was some kind of action-adventure game with fighting, but after downloading it, I found that the pace is surprisingly slow, which is especially suitable for people like me who can't think clearly late at night but don't want to sleep.
The game is made by Taoteng Interactive, free to download, and runs on platform version 5.0. The core gameplay is exploring the island, collecting resources, slowly building your own small base, and then going to temple ruins to find magical artifacts. It sounds quite exciting, but in reality, it's not the kind of game that forces you to rush through progress. You can spend a whole evening picking shells and chopping trees by the sea, and nobody will rush you.
My favorite thing is its atmosphere. The background music is particularly quiet, the kind with the sound of waves plus a little soft flute; when playing with headphones on, you gradually relax. The visuals are in a low-poly style, with darker colors, and playing at night with the lights off is not harsh on the eyes.
The combat parts aren't that difficult, even players with poor skills can handle them. Dying doesn't make you lose anything important; you just return to camp and go through it again. The temple puzzles aren't the kind of difficulty that would make you want to throw your phone; they are at a level that can be solved with a bit of thinking. Sometimes when I get stuck, I put down my phone to make a cup of hot milk, and when I come back, I understand it.
Let me share a few small tips that I find quite practical. In the early stage, don't rush to advance the main storyline. First, gather the trees and stones around your camp and upgrade your basic tools to level two; it will make later exploration much easier. Also, the game time will get darker at night, but you can actually use a torch to light your way, so don't be like me the first time I played, foolishly waiting until morning. Another thing is that you don't have to take all the treasure chests in the temple. Some require a long detour, so if you're tired, just come back next time; after all, the items won't disappear.
There are also drawbacks, such as the guidance not being sufficient. Some task hints are very vague, and I often have to wander around aimlessly for a while to find the place. Another issue is that the backpack slots are a bit few. As a hoarder-type player, I want to pick up everything, so I often have to run back and forth to the storage.
But overall, it's really suitable for playing quietly alone before bed or late at night. You don't have to grind or spend money; you can stop whenever you want, and you can save and quit anytime. Last night, I originally planned to play for half an hour and then sleep, but when I looked up, it was already morning... Well, I guess you can't really blame the game for that.
If you're also a night owl, or just want to find a low-pressure game to play slowly, you can give this one a try. I'm going to catch up on sleep, good night everyone.
