Cicada on the eighth day
A cicada spends seven years in the earth, but only lives seven days after emerging from the earth. But if one cicada is different from its companions, it survives alone. So does she feel loneliness and sadness, or the joy of seeing a new scenery? Is the cicada who is "lucky" to live to the eighth day sad? Is it joy? If I work hard to live, God will not despise me, right? -- Mitsuyo Tsunoda, "The Cicada on the Eighth Day"
